Run-Flat Tyres – Are They Worth The Money?

Run-flat tyres can support the weight of a vehicle for a short time, providing the driver with roughly 100 miles of range to find a repair shop. While it may sound like the perfect solution, car owners and car shoppers should know about the issues with this type of tyre because it certainly isn’t perfect. Although run-flat tyre enables you to keep driving about 100 miles after all the air has gone, one issue we’ve noticed is that people were replacing their run-flat tyres an average of 6,000 miles sooner than owners using standard tyres. Even though the tyre can support the vehicle without air, a sudden deflation results in less weight transfer and tread destabilisation, and you also have to bear in mind that if you fail notice the...

Reverse Parking

We all dread the time when we have to drive alongside another car and parallel park behind it. Fear not, with this handy guide on how to do the reverse parking exercise then it should hopefully become easier. This is also one of the manoeuvres that you might have to carry out during the UK driving test. On your driving test you will have to perform this within a two car length gap. We’re going to be having a look at the one-two-one method of parking. However, there is no perfect method to park a car. Make sure that you learn to use your judgement too. If you see that you’re getting too close to the kerb in your passenger door mirror then steer more to the right. If there’s...

Clean Your Exhaust

When cleaning the exhaust tip, we recommend using a degreaser and a metal polish. To start off, soak the tips with the degreaser and let the chemicals work its magic. Use a cleaning brush after a few minutes and start cleaning inside and outside the exhaust tip. After you’ve dried it off, it’s time to polish the exhaust. For this we recommend you polish using a steel wool for the first polish and then a microfiber cloth for the second.

Thank You Lotus!

It’s been down-sized, shedding 21kg to 931kg all-up, and gains 26bhp from it’s Toyota-sourced, supercharged 1.8-litre engine. That means the brand new Lotus Elise has a total of 243bhp and 261bhp/tonne, enough for 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds and the title of fastest purely road-going Elise ever. Note that time is to 60mph mind, rather than the 0-62mph we more commonly see these days – so expect that sprint to take 4.3. Still, it’s a quick thing. Available as a roadster with a hard-top option, there’s also a Carbon Aero Pack which drops a further 10kg, a whopping rear wing and chunky front splitter – Lotus reckons 66kg of downforce at 100mph and 155kg at the 250 Cup’s top speed of 154mph.

Taking Care of Your Tyres

Tyres are one of the most important parts of your vehicle. That fact that they are the only contact points between your vehicle and the road makes them an extremely important factor when it comes to safety, fuel consumption and general performance. Weather you run on budget tyres or some of the high-end brands, you need to check them regularly and have maintenance works carried out on them. This does not only improve safety, but also increases their lifespan saving you money in the long run. Some of the tyre maintenance works include;Wheel Balancing: This ensures your tyres and wheels are properly balanced and spin with all weights distributed equally. When your tyres are unbalanced, they wobble at high speeds and wear out much faster forcing you to replace them...
